Lots to do here in the heart of New York! Skiing yields to bicycling when spring arrives. Fishing in Cortland County reaches its peak. The thirty mile Tioughnioga River, a classic American waterway is perfect for kayak or canoe.
Plus we have nineteen beautiful towns and villages to explore with museums that will tell you who we are and where we came from.

Take a weekend in the spring exploring our area and you'll be back for a couple weeks later in the year for sure!
Golf Courses: Cortland County has five great public golf courses offering fantastic golf at a price so low it will astound you! Courses are open as seasonal weather permits so call ahead in the Spring and Fall to be sure. Click here for detailed information about each course.

Maple Festival: Central New York's largest festival with all things maple. Cortland County has over 40 maple syrup producers. Come and see it made and "taste" for yourself how sweet it is in Cortland County.



Museums: Cortland County abounds in history. There's a beautiful Victorian mansion in the "1890s House", the County's Historical Society at the "Suggett House", an old time country store you can still shop in at "Bob's Country Store Museum" and one of the most unique private museums you will ever see featuring military, antique trains, etc... they even have a battle tank in the backyard at the "Homeville Museum". You can even get a feel for that old country time music and history at the "Music Park Museum". Use the Cortland County Tourism Center link at the bottom of this page for more information.
Spring means trout in Cortland County! Some of the best fishing can be found in the Otselic River right along state routes 26 & 41 just downstream from one of New York's brown trout hatcheries. Of course we have lots of streams that will give any level of angler a great day. We also have many lakes offering public access including boat launches, Whitney Point Lake, Little York Lake to name just two. Rental boats become available at Whitney Point Lake for the entire summer starting Memorial Day Weekend. If you have the time, visit one of our most famous businesses, Cortland Line in Cortland, one of the world's best in providing fishing line and equipment.

For nature lovers try the Lime Hollow Nature Center which offers all season nature programs and adventure.

Antiqueing: Visit one of our many fine antique shops to find just what you've been looking for! The village of Marathon and the city of Cortland boast the majority of them. But many others can be found just short drives in any direction in surrounding towns just over the border of Cortland County.
Hiking: Hike the famous Finger Lakes Trail which meanders right through our county. trails ar at all levels from challenging to less taxing for beginners.

Kayak/Canoeing: We have thirty miles of waterway (Tioughnioga River) along with many other streams and rivers to test your skills. many public launch areas are provided. Also try Little York Lake and Whitney Point Lake for calmer waters.
